With a total display area of 50,000sq.m, it becomes the biggest trade fair ever in Viet Nam specialising in construction materials, furniture and interior design.
Duong Ky Anh of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry said there were more than 300 foreign and domestic companies participating in the fair, including fifty foreign enterprises from Germany, Switzerland, Russia, mainland China, South Korea and Taiwan.
Deputy Minister of Construction Tong Van Nga said the Melinh Plaza expo would display high-quality building materials and interior decor products to meet diversified requirements of the country’s growing construction industry. Domestic and foreign enterprises would have a chance to market their products and network with potential customers.
Organisers plan to conduct three seminars on advanced technology and new construction materials and building trademarks in the sector. A seminar on strengthening the competitive capacity of the building materials sector during international integration was also held yesterday in Ha Noi.
Despite long being pointed to for its large potential, the building materials industry continues to post disappointingly low export figures. In 2004, the export turnover of the industry reached approximately US$100 million; it hit $130 million last year.
